Everyone Home DC is currently operating on a reduced schedule for the health and safety of our community. This means, we are pausing our volunteer programs until further notice. You can read our full statement on our operation status here.
By volunteering at Everyone Home DC, you play an essential role in helping us build a District of Columbia where all people can obtain and remain in safe, affordable, and comfortable homes. Whether you are distributing critical resources to our chronically homeless neighbors, assisting guests at our day-time hospitality center, providing support with in-kind donation pick-up, or leading a one-time intensive project beautifying our buildings and spaces–your time at Everyone Home DC and your talent shared has an enormous impact! We invite you to experience our work first-hand and make a positive difference in the community by volunteering with us.
Individual volunteers can work directly with our community members or behind the scenes to help keep Everyone Home DC running smoothly. Complete our Online Application and you will be contacted with information on how to register for a volunteer orientation.
HART, which stands for Homeless Assistance Response Team, is a group of concerned community members, who are trained to offer basic street outreach services to our unsheltered neighbors. HART volunteers canvass the streets of the Eastern Market neighborhood of Capitol Hill and offer water, snacks and supplies to individuals that are staying outside. Volunteers are also trained to assess individuals for signs of hypothermia and hyperthermia, encourage them to move indoors, call the shelter hotline for anyone who would like to access shelter, and call for emergency services or back-up support for those who are in immediate danger.

Shirley’s Place Guest Services Volunteer
Support our day hospitality center’s general operations through direct client services and some administrative tasks. Our Shirley’s Place volunteers support our services by greeting our guests, answering the phone, assisting with laundry and shower services and helping us maintain a clean, welcoming and dignified environment for our guests. Shifts are available at Shirley’s Place Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Shirley’s Place Meal Preparation
Shirley’s Place invites you to prepare a nutritious meal and enjoy it with our guests! Our meal prep volunteers cook lunch for about 10-15 guests at our day center. Shirley’s Place will have the pots, pans and utensils for you to use to prepare the meal, and we ask our volunteers to bring the ingredients. Everyone Home DC welcomes volunteers to make a meal at Shirley’s Place on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 am. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 or with a parent or guardian.
Shirley’s Place Lunch Drop Off
Provide a meal for our guests that can be easily frozen and reheated, like a lasagna or casserole, for our guests to enjoy! Drop off times are available Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
