Everyone Home DC Gift Acceptance Policy

Everyone Home DC solicits and accepts gifts consistent with its mission to support the holistic needs of individuals and families at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. Donations are generally welcomed from individuals, partnerships, corporations, foundations, government agencies, and other entities.

Throughout its regular fundraising activities, Everyone Home DC will accept donations of money, stock, real property, personal property, and in-kind services. Gifts of cash, checks, credit card donations, and in-kind services that directly support programming are routinely accepted by staff. Gifts of personal property or real property, as well as in-kind contributions that require storage, maintenance, or special handling, will be reviewed by the Executive Director and the Director of Fundraising. They will consider the gift’s usefulness, ease of liquidation, potential liabilities, and associated costs.

Everyone Home DC values all gifts that support its mission. While unrestricted gifts provide the greatest flexibility and impact, restricted gifts will be considered if they align with the organization’s strategic priorities and can be reasonably implemented without undue administrative burden. The Executive Director and Director of Fundraising will review restricted gifts of any size. The Executive Director may consult the Executive Committee if a proposed restriction could materially affect operations or require a new program.

Everyone Home DC welcomes bequests and other planned gifts. Unless otherwise agreed in writing and approved by the Executive Director and Director of Fundraising, all such gifts will support the organization’s general purposes. Donors are encouraged to consult their advisors when considering these types of contributions.

While there are no routine restrictions on sources, the organization reserves the right to decline gifts from entities or individuals whose activities are inconsistent with its mission or if the gifts conflict with Everyone Home DC’s values, compromise its independence or integrity, or pose undue financial, legal, or operational risk. The Executive Director, in consultation with the Director of Fundraising, has the authority to determine whether a gift aligns with the organization’s mission and values.

The Board of Directors will be asked to review and approve gifts that present significant financial, legal, or reputational risk, are unusually large, or involve conditions that could materially affect the organization’s strategic direction. In such cases, the Executive Director will present a recommendation to the Executive Committee for review, and the Board will vote on whether to accept the gift.
